the bright, glowing world opens my heart in beauty –

 there’s this summer song

of cool wind on my skin,

playing sweet, soft percussion through the tall, lush marsh grass

gentle water laps at the sand

invisible birds singing in surround sound

visible ones splash and dive for breakfast

patient, yet very aware

my heart resonates with the language we have spoken

the songs we have sung

the rich vibrations of our connection

over the past months…

over the past two days…

today’s fresh sun warms my back

my shadow sits large

writing poems

this morning

this day

this moment

in silence birthing

my gratitude

my pleasure

 my gift

my life

thank you

for being you,

for reaching out,

for holding my hand

and my heart πŸ’ž

 a photograph

a memory

a poem

a song

a kiss

a touch

a slap

a smile

a frown

a gift

a breath

a pause

a word –

of love or hate or truth or lie

   all vivid pictures

memorials in a lifetime

of moments never to be forgotten

snapshots of a single frame in time

just a shutter-length

a stutter-length

an eye-lash blink

never to be here again –

yet never to be gone –

always within us

they live forever

we live forward

becoming the collective

of all these moments

 as we grow

with each opportunity

we choose to become –

more or less –

we gain courage

we live with integrity

with truth.

or we remain hidden

afraid to let go of what’s gone.

we make these choices every instant we live –

every moment ours to decide:

to be,

or not to be?

yes, Mr. Shakespeare,

that, is still, the question.

There was nothing there when I heard a voice.

Haven’t you had a strangeness like this?

I did not respond right away, ignoring it,

and its restlessness increased.

I chucked it off as imagination.

Haven’t you ignored queasy feelings?

Perhaps it was from the empty fields,

but there was stillness in the grass and air.

This uneasiness followed me into the car

and went with me.

When stillness is so quiet, nothing is heard.

There was nothing in my house.

Nothing in the sky. Nothing in the isolated miles.

The voice persisted.

Ever ignore something that refused to be ignored?

It was telling me to enjoy and love.

The message was everywhere it needed to be.

All I had to do was listenβ€”then it was everywhere.

When Stillness Is Heard by Martin Willitts, Jr.

remember: it all flows

Jairus begged him repeatedly, My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him…. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, β€˜Who touched my clothes?”…. The woman came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. … While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader’s house to say, β€œYour daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?”…. He took her hand, and she got up….

                  β€”from Mark 5.2143
Jesus, interrupted, follows.

Interrupted again, he stops.

The clock ticking,

sirens still blaring, lights flashing,

he stops and listens.

His pause, it seems, is deadly.

But it isn’t, is it?
Who does not feel the devil

turning within you, chanting,

There is not enough time?

Who does not fear the story,

told from behind a dark curtain,

You don’t have the power?
Of course you don’t.

It’s not yours.

Time does not belong; it flows.

Power does not sit; it flows.

You don’t have to dip into

your little purse of time and energy:

you let infinite grace flow through you.
Healing happens without your effort;

you are only present.

It is not your time, not your energy, but God’s.

You enter the river, and it flows through you.
When you are present in this moment

you will be present in the next.
And thus it is, when you are present in this life

you are present in the next.

God shows up

  Nobody loves such days,
everything smudged in powdered lead,
the whites all off, the blacks dull

like the bad side of a mirror.

Yet in a world of shadows

what matters are not the highlights

but the shades of grays.

This river, for instance, a sooty snake

mirroring an oatmeal sky.

But watch it eddy and swirl,

and gradually the lead turns silver, begins

to blaze from within, as if begging the sun

to bust out of its straight-jacket.

And shine. Which the sun very nearly does.

But in the end, it can’t be bothered.

It says, Sparkle yourself.

And eventually we do. Van Gogh returns

to the sea-light of his youth.

Sews the ear back on.

Trades his magentas and cyans

for a # 2 pencil. It is all in the shading,

he realizes. The pursuit of raging hues

was madness. God, no longer

in the rainbowed flame,

but in this wan, uncertain earthlight:

this almost-shimmer on a river.

Whatever plain brown paper wrapper

the day comes in.

what are you looking for?Β

When our eyes are graced with wonder, the world reveals its wonders to us. There are people who see only dullness in the world and that is because their eyes have already been dulled. So much depends on how we look at things. The quality of our looking determines what we come to see.     – John O’Donohue

leaps & boundsΒ

When you send forth your spirit, we are created

                  β€”Psalm 104.30

Holy One,

         breath of the big bang,

         idea of creation,

you who make spring come forth,

who make life out of nothing,

breathe yourself into me.

         Create me.

you are the flame,

         I am your light.

You are the nerve,

         I am your muscle.

You are the Word,

         I am the story.

You are the song,

         I am the singing.

I am one with you

         and one with all Creation.

One Spirit,

         one flesh, many forms.

In your Spirit

         I am we.

Holy One, live in me;
         I am your body.

I remember,

         and I live.

[God] seems to delight in using the unexpected, the least likely, or the weakest link to turn our lives upside down and inside out . . . and fulfill the plan he has had in mind since the beginning of time.

super power

With love so sudden and so sweet,

Her face it bloomed like a sweet flower
And stole my heart away complete.
My face turned pale as deadly pale.
My legs refused to walk away,
And when she looked, what could I ail?
My life and all seemed turned to clay.

And then my blood rushed to my face
And took my eyesight quite away,
The trees and bushes round the place
Seemed midnight at noonday.
I could not see a single thing,
Words from my eyes did start –
They spoke as chords do from the string,
And blood burnt round my heart.

Are flowers the winter’s choice?
Is love’s bed always snow?
She seemed to hear my silent voice,
Not love’s appeals to know.
I never saw so sweet a face
As that I stood before.
My heart has left its dwelling-place
And can return no more

Caesium standardΒ

caesium standard or caesium atomic clock is a primary frequency standard in which electronic transitionsbetween the two hyperfine ground states of caesium-133 atoms are used to control the output frequency. The first caesium clock was built by Louis Essenin 1955 at the National Physical Laboratory in the UK.[1]
Caesium clocks are the most accurate commercially produced time and frequency standards, and serve as the primary standard for the definition of the second in SI (the metric system). By definition, radiation produced by the transition between the two hyperfine ground states of caesium (in the absence of external influences such as the Earth’s magnetic field) has a frequency of exactly 9,192,631,770 Hz. That value was chosen so that the caesium second equalled, to the limit of human measuring ability in 1960 when it was adopted, the existing standard ephemeris second based on the Earth‘s orbit around the Sun.[2] Because no other measurement involving time had been as precise, the effect of the change was less than the experimental uncertainty of all existing measurements.
