I am here to tell you morning has come

there’s this whisper promise

in the breeze,

a bit of ethereal fog slipping between the sheets

of night

and dawn breaking.
there’s this rumor running

afoot in this new born day,

a sideways glance of something –

Oh it’s JOY!

and all this glory burning hot.
there’s this holy hushing

songs of angels,

a chorus of bluebells

bowing heads

softly clapping

as they watch it all approaching.
there’s this first blush of light,

smudging darkness,

a bit like the bitter and sweet

mixed each day with our longing

for joy to come nest.
there’s a song playing on low

sometimes you forget to remember

be still and know

as sure as spring follows winter

love always wins

listen to your heartbeat

joy is our birthright

right now

morning has come

It could happen any time, tornado,

 earthquake, Armageddon. It could happen.

 Or sunshine, love, salvation.
It could, you know. That’s why we wake

and look out — no guarantees

 in this life.
But some bonuses, like morning,

 like right now, like noon,

 like evening.
Yes!
-William Stafford

At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

Getting it Right—Write!

I have a notion

I must confess

A notion you see

That has me quite obsessed
It sits in my head

both day and night

it haunts my dreams

and gives me great fright
It rules my thoughts

this little notion

stirring up doubts

and causing a commotion
It wiggles and niggles

in my brain

with a feverish pitch

it drives me insane
This obsession you ask

what could it be?

My obsession is a task

I seek endlessly!
To get it right

To do my best

To show I’m bright

I can pass the test
This feeling to get it right

Is ever so strong

I work day and night

To not get it wrong
I was given great insight

About this “getting it right”

I just learned recently

A truth that has finally set me free
It’s not it at all

about getting it right.

It’s about happiness and light

and letting your soul shine bright
No have to’s

No pressure

No should’s

Did me a world of good!
So no longer will I labor

to get it right

I will do my best

to give it a rest!
So In my chair I sit and write

No longer will I yearn

or worry with concern

it’s quite easy once when you learn
I will change my mantra

and simply ignore

those three little words

I was obsessed with before
What’s my new mantra

you might ask

I’ve changed my word

just a small task
I am no longer worried

about that word right

I will feed my soul

and simply WRITE!!

We seldom notice how each day is a holy place
Where the eucharist of the ordinary happens,

 Transforming our broken fragments

Into an eternal continuity that keeps us.
Somewhere in us a dignity presides

That is more gracious than the smallness

That fuels us with fear and force,

A dignity that trusts the form a day takes.
So at the end of this day, we give thanks

For being betrothed to the unknown

 And for the secret work

Through which the mind of the day

And wisdom of the soul become one.

It was just a jug of water
I took with me to the well

the stranger asked me for a drink
I choked on my reply,

why would I give you water, sir
when I am thirsty, dry?

and then he said
if you give to me
I will fill your cup
with things you’ve never had before
yes, I will fill you up

then I cried
here’s my cup
fill it up
fill it up
Here’s my whole jug of water
fill it up
Lord
fill it up

take the heart of my devises
make it new I recognize it
needs to know your love

take this life of broken chances
use it now for your devices
and let me share your love

it was just a blue sky summer morning
as I started to the well

then this stranger spoke my life,
the whole world stopped –
I choked on my reply,

how do you know me so well, sir
oh tell me, who am I?

and then he said
if you give to me
I will fill your heart
with things you’ve never had before
yes, I will fill you up

then I cried
here’s my heart
fill it up
fill it up
Here’s my whole heart, my life
fill it up
Lord
fill it up

as the sun set that evening
everything had changed
and my heart it was singing
all my life was rearranged
everything is different now
this strangers my best friend
Jesus came to live with me
I am loved
I know it’s true
this end is the beginning
this beginning is the end

all the hidden things

20140220-074145.jpg

All the things hidden in my heart,
I, like Mary,
watching and observing Jesus.
Being the witness of the unseen miracles.
The keeper of all I have seen.
My faith is real,
because I have experienced great acts of God,
faithfulness
on the inside, and outside, of my life,
In the daily progression of my journey.
You can’t take any of it away from me.
I know what I have seen.
I know my personal transformation of heart.
This is not my daddy’s faith
This is not my momma’s relationship.
This is all mine.
Intimacy
Walking together.
Miracles.
Clouds and colors,
falling stars and pillars of fire,
pointing the way.
Falling in love.
Commitment.
Yes, the words of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount
changed my life.
When I began to try to live them daily.
When I stepped into the great unknown.
Became an observer of my own soul.
Became open to the door of the unknown.
Became comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Became strong in the divine otherness within me.
Fell in passionate love with grace.
Fell in love with this great, incomprehensible love.
Walked through the unlocked door into freedom.
All the hidden things will be revealed
All the hidden things will be proclaimed
All the hidden things will be shouted from the rooftops.
All the hidden things will be joyfully sung at the top of my lungs.
All the hidden things will remain hidden no more.
Glory rises as the sun rises.
Glory rises as the sun sets.

not in vain

20140113-102606.jpg

I said, “I have labored in vain,
yet surely my cause is with the Lord.”
The Holy One says,
“I will give you as a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”
—Isaiah 49.4, 6

Beloved,
you do not see your own face,
nor can you hear God’s delight in you.
You can’t hold your work in your hands.
You can’t know the whole tapestry
into which you are woven.
God’s grace works within, unseen.
Go with the mere faith
that you are God’s thread.

No star can guess its place in the heavens,
which are nonetheless glorious.
The Beloved is continually making this world,
saying, “Let there be light:”
and you walk out into the darkness,
and God says, “It is good.”
The miracle rolls on to the end of the earth
until all is mended, all is beautiful,
all is blessed.

trust

The woods this morning didn’t look any different from autumn: trees bare, grass brown, dead leaves on muddy ground. But spring is happening. The woods were thick with bird song. I saw the beaver who hides in the brook. I came upon a little marsh where some little critter was singing away, a single frog proclaiming its news. Others joined in, in a great chorus of peeping and screeching. I couldn’t see any of them. I stood there a long time and looked, but I couldn’t find one. I came nearer—and of course they all stopped. They knew I was there. And though I could not see them, I knew they were there.

Most of what goes on in this world is unseen. Planets orbit, flocks migrate, cells and organs work in the darkness. And love does its work. Skeptics look for proof of God, as if God were Bigfoot, as if The Holy One were any more provable than love or humor, as if paparazzi could somehow catch Spirit taking out the trash. No, God is The Unseen One. The closer we come the more there is only mystery. Fools never realize that when we stop knowing and can only wonder, we are seeing God.

We learn to tune our hearts to the invisible, to see with our souls, not just our eyes, to know that we live in a world and in the company of a Presence whose power and grace so far exceeds our capacity to know or see or understand that all we can do is wonder and trust. The world sings its song. God is at work. We come near, and listen with gratitude, and wonder and trust.

Fools come and go
As does life
but we are still here,
you and I,
living this dance
between the two sacred spaces
of our eternity,
birth and death,
connecting our living
with the whole
of what was before
and what will come after
the unbroken tread
the unbreakable thread
the circle of Love
unending
the blind Father
who welcomes us
as He does all his children
to this glorious celebration
because we are all equally
his beloved

vulnerability of caring – we are all connected

“The miracle is this – the more we share, the more we have.”
– Leonard Nimoy

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover him,
and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Then shall your light break forth like the dawn,
and your healing shall spring up speedily;
your righteousness shall go before you;
the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.
Isaiah 58:7-8

have no fear…they are all God’s Particles

GOD PARTICLE

Last week they found the Higgs boson!  For all you non-calculator-carrying mystical meditating un-geek poetry-reading hippie types, this is a really big deal.

When scientists came up with the math that explains how the physical universe holds together, they had a perfect equation, except for one thing.  It explained a universe in which nothing had any mass—there was no substance.  In order for things to have mass, there had to be one more factor, that they called the Higgs field, named for the guy who did the math.  It’s a dimension of the physical universe that gives things mass when they interact with it. If it’s there, the math says, then there should be a tiny particle, called the Higgs boson.  If they found that particle, it would prove almost everything. Trouble is, for 48 years, since it was predicted in 1964, nobody’s been able to find it. It’s been humorously called the “God particle”—not by scientists, but the popular media.  In fact some scientists have suggested calling it—pardon the scientific jargon here—the Goddamn particle, for its elusiveness and the trouble and expense it has caused among those trying to find it.  Until last week.

(Higgs Boson walks into a Catholic church.  Priest says, “How dare you call yourself the God particle!  Blasphemer!  Get out!”  Higgs Boson says: “Well, OK—but without me, you can’t have mass!”)

One thing I love about this whole thing is the “faith in something not seen” they had.  Another is the sense of wonder.  And another is the Higgs field.  Present in all the universe, it gives things mass when they interact with it.  Isn’t that sort of like God?  God is present in all the universe, and when you interact with God, you are given substance. Nothing else gives you substance, not what happens to you, not what you do, not what others think of you.  It’s God’s interaction with you.  You aren’t responsible for the substance of your existence: it’s a gift from God. In a way youare a God particle, a tiny manifestation of the holy mystery that holds everything together.

So celebrate with the particle physicists.  Like the Higgs boson, it turns out you’re more than just a figment of the world’s imagination. You’re proof of the existence of God.

I am finally in Ohio!!! More tomorrow!

20120709-084534.jpg

I am so thankful for this amazing trip I just took to Connecticut & Boston!!! Still driving! 3 more hours…

do all things with love

20120622-074748.jpg

Yes….ALL things!
“Love the Lord with all your heart. Love your neighbor as yourself” – Jesus
Love is truly all we need.
Not love the way our world protrays it, most of the time.
A love that takes us higher and higher.
Love that brings freedom and fuels our passion and purpose.
Love that builds our world and changes hearts.
He leads us by example.
His words are life changing.
I know – it happened to me!
He loves us beyond anything we can comprehend.
Yet just a glimpse brings our souls and hearts to life, flaming the passion to give, and receive, this love.
It is real and it is available for everyone.
We are all his beloved.
