thank you, dear heart,

for being so brave,

for the courage to stay open,

for giving, and receiving, love,

for taking me into battles

and winning wars with your ferocious strength

for valiantly defending your fragile tenderness

for loving your own terrible beauty

for revealing your deepest darkness to the light of discovery

and laying open your wounds to the healing air

for being willing to walk into heartbreak again and again,

knowing what you do.

For, even when you are shaking afraid,

you always shout,

‘YAY!’

‘Yes’

‘Let’s dance’

and

‘I gotta have more cowbell…’

Thank you for your life giving work

your refusal to quit

your belief in the way I live

I adore you

I honor you

I cherish and bless

your amazing work

in my chest,

in my world,

in my relationships,

and in my wanderings.

I give you the gift of the best me,

in every moment we have together,

the brightest shining light,

I can be

we do good work, girl,

you got the beat,

Oh, skip it, Let’s roll!
Yours forever true,

❤️

Where you belong should always be worthy of your dignity.       – John O’Donohue

                         everything here

 seems to need us

                   -Rainer Maria Rilke

😶🙃🙂

I can hardly imagine it

as I walk to the lighthouse,

feeling the ancient

prayer of my arms swinging

in counterpoint to my feet.

Here I am, suspended

between the sidewalk and twilight,

the sky dimming so fast it seems alive.

What if you felt the invisible

tug between you and everything?

A boy on a bicycle rides by,

his white shirt open, flaring

behind him like wings.

It’s a hard time to be human.

 We know too much

and too little.

Does the breeze need us?

The cliffs?

The gulls?

If you’ve managed to do one good thing,

the ocean doesn’t care.

But when Newton’s apple fell toward the earth,

the earth, ever so slightly, fell

toward the apple.

The World Has Need of You by Ellen Bass

the beauty of comversations

so amazing

such glory in these connections

from all over the world –

we all have need of each other.

Front porches can be found anywhere.

We share lunch tables

and stories, oh so exciting.

The four friends head to the gate,

the two locals call a friendly greeting as they return to leave for home,

they remember my name –

it rings out in the busy airport!

Wave and smiling – I live here!

I sit and rejoice.

Write it. 🙂

   I am enriched

       by this going

           by this obedience

                  by this calling

I have received such confirmation of my work.

So energized,

             so blessed,

                      so excited,

                so ready.

I am smiling as the guy above my table says,

So we must be in the allergy section….

(we talk throat clearing and

the fact that I have eaten gluten,

 for a few)

Hi, I’m Gary…I’m Amy….

my next divine appointment

has just arrived…

we cross paths 2 or3 times,

then just sit

     talk,

           share,

                connect,

                  sleep

         (well, sorta…in a plane seat??????….winging to Phily)

we leave each other with a warm hug,

after an all night flight…

I am doing my work…

and it is good

feeling it down to the marrow

Life itself is the great sacrament through which we are wounded and healed. If we live everything, life will be faithful to us.

❤️

  – John O’Donohue

this birth of awaiting changes
this for that
tit for tat
tuxedo memories
pinstripe debonair
glamour hangs
like confetti in the air
life goes
round and round
flinging dreams
synthetic roads
leading nowhere
screams and laugher
hardest when not fair
up one side now
down the other there
we hang on
we stomp our feet
and swear
this ain’t right
this we cannot bear
life goes forward
ever on and on
wanting only
to change our point of view
we are loved
no matter what we lose
love will win
love always life’s sweet muse
sight or blind
the vision ours to choose

Men must endure / Their going hence even as their coming hither; / Ripeness is all.

    – William Shakespeare / King Lear

into the silence

Now there was a great wind…

but the Lord was not in the wind;

and after the wind an earthquake,

but the Lord was not in the earthquake;

and after the earthquake a fire,

but the Lord was not in the fire;

and after the fire a sound of deep silence.

—1 Kings 19.11-12

Beneath the earthquake, wind and fire

that are always here

I listen for your silence

that is always here,

your deep, luscious silence

speaking to me, singing.
I listen to your deep silence

breathing in me.

I listen for the sound of it,

its great sea moving,

its stars whirling.

I listen into the deep

that welcomes me.
Beneath the noise and rush and flame

your silence unfolds in me,

the great rose of you

opening to my own silence

and I become your silence

unfolding into the world.

to me great contentment is when you are able to sit on the porch looking at the beauty that God has made surrounding you, with a hot cup of coffee and nothing on your mind…

to drink in nature and commune in a silent, grateful, prayerful state without forcing words through your mind or your mouth…

just letting the thoughts slide through….coming and going as they will and feeling complete peace in your soul.

just to be in that moment and feel God’s presence and God’s peace to experience that moment of living…not expecting any- thing…

just feeling quite wonderful, not happy, not sad, just wonderful….very human and very alive.

it is interesting…because in the last couple of years…in some of my toughest times…I have experienced a lot of these wonderful moments of contentment…it is a complete surrender to the will of God and the Uni- verse – it is truly a wonderful thing…peace…

good bye for now – new things being birthed 💞 peace

it always comes down to choices

Only when we rest in God can we find the safety, the spaciousness, and the scary freedom to be who we are, all that we are, more than we are, and less than we are.

             – Richard Rohr

The quarrel of the sparrows in the eaves,

The full round moon and the star-laden sky,

And the loud song of the ever-singing leaves,

Had hid away earth’s old and weary cry.

And then you came with those red mournful lips,

And with you came the whole of the world’s tears,

And all the trouble of her laboring ships,

And all the trouble of her myriad years.

And now the sparrows warring in the eaves,

The curd-pale moon, the white stars in the sky,

And the loud chaunting of the unquiet leaves,

Are shaken with earth’s old and weary cry.

The Sorrow of Love by William Butler Yeats
———
Do you have any idea how many princesses have gone unrecognized by their prince because of logic? Or how many princes have gone unrecognized by their princess because of pride?
How many dreams were dashed when the handmaiden answered the door? Or when the gatehouse was mistaken for the mansion? Or when the calm before the storm of abundance and good fortune was viewed as a sign to retreat?
Happily, we’ve got forever and ever. And fortunately, it’s never too late to see what one’s missed, remain focused on the dream instead of the hows, and move with unwavering faith.

freedom,

oh freedom,

that’s just some people talkin’

cause your prison is walking through this world

all alone.

there is terrible beauty in every human heart
tell me a story that will live with me forever
love always shares grace always wins
you can’t miss out
pay attention…
the message is always revealed at the appointed intersection
letting go brings the right miracle
at the right time the song playlist repeats
crazy love flows into mystic waters
deep calling to deep
honor chooses to say yes to the best invitations
making the call brings me the messages I need

there is always more than enough to share

gratitude buckets fill and overflow
removing scales from blurry, tearful, kaleidoscope eyes
as perfect peace falls into rightful place
color shards blooming into new masterpieces of never before seen glory
diamonds dance on the water

herons bring messages of great importance,

delivered via my beautiful Mama Bird,

fluent in language of bird, tree, dreams and laughter…just to name a few.
flaming beauty evolves, drives me to my knees,
shedding shoes, and fear,
as I pray
I lift my face to the evening sky

and soar free
full wing, open soul, with the hawks,
who always fly in trust that they are enough
right here, and in every tick of time,
in, and in-between, every click of the second hand,
around the bend of eternity and back again

fruitopia

Anticipation of
coming back to life
moving through the grey
into new
love
joy
peace
light
There is no guarantee of anything in this lifetime
however there are amazing things hidden
which bring forth their fruit
in their season
Sometimes it feels like it just won’t happen,
then…

before you know it…
flash, boom, bang,
you got more okra than you could ever eat

grown clear-up to the second floor windows!
Go ahead,

live with the hope
Plan with the expectancy
of all good things
come in their time

I see you

A woman in the city, who was a sinner,

stood behind him at his feet, weeping,

and began to bathe his feet with her tears….

He said, “Do you see this woman?”

—Luke 7.37, 44

……………………..
No, we do not see.

To one of Jesus’ most arresting questions,

we have to answer: we don’t see her.

We see our prejudices and stereotypes. W

e see our fears and projections.

We don’t see this woman;

we see what we think of her.

We see a sinner.

We see someone disrupting our dinner.

We see someone who makes us uncomfortable.

Which is to say, we see our judgment,

our expectations,

our discomfort.

We see our own stuff.

We don’t see her.
But Jesus saw this woman,

really saw her.

He saw her pain and her strength,

her gratitude, her courage,

her transformation.

He saw the precious value of her gift.

He saw her soul at work.

He saw God’s grace in her.
Jesus really saw people.

He saw who they were and knew their story,

not because he had ESP

but because he paid attention.

The woman at the well,

the bent over woman,

the rich man,

Bartimaeus,

the woman who touched him in a crowd…

he really saw people because he wanted to. He

paid attention.

And there was healing in his seeing.

What he saw in people was not their flaws

but the mercy of God.

And seeing the grace was like sunlight on plants:

it made people heal and grow and bear fruit.
God, help me really see.

Help me set aside my feelings and judgments,

and see whole people,

your beloved,

precious souls.

Help me see myself:

help me notice my projections,

and name my fears and expectations;

help me confess my blinders

and set them aside so I can see.

Beloved, help me really see people,

really see your grace,

really see at all.

Beloved, I want to see.

At dusk, by the irrigation ditch

gurgling past backyards near the highway,

locusts raise a maze of calls in cottonwoods.

A Spanish girl in a white party dress
s

trolls the levee by the muddy water

where her small sister plunks in stones.

Beyond a low adobe wall and a wrecked car

men are pitching horseshoes in a dusty lot.

Someone shouts as he clangs in a ringer.

Big winds buffet in ahead of a storm,

rocking the immense trees and whipping up

clouds of dust, wild leaves, and cottonwool.

In the moment when the locusts pause and the girl

presses her up-fluttering dress to her bony knees

you can hear a banjo, guitar, and fiddle

playing “The Mississippi Sawyer” inside a shack.

Moments like that, you can love this country.

—–
“Passing through Albuquerque” by John Balaban

I wanna take this moment to look into your eyes.
Linger there with courage, allow your soul to rise
Feel your loving spirit
Touch your hidden dreams.
Let you know you’re not alone

that you’re finally seen…

Now’s there’s one less stranger in the world.

One less lonely heart in the night.

Lift your eyes and look at me

now there’s one less stranger in the world.

If you speak right from your heart
and let me do the same
If you allow my point of view
As we grow and change
If we both ask questions
to answers we seek
Then just sit in silence
allow our hearts to speak….

There’d be one less stranger in the world.
One less lonely heart in the night.
Lift your eyes and look at me
now there’s one less stranger in the world.

do the work

Each of us in our own work, our own play,

can transform the earth,

can ring a thousand stars

with any insignificant

anonymous sacrament

of the commonplace…

This little bowl of tea

could bring peace to

all my ancestors,

to a hundred unborn

generations, if I hold it

tenderly, like a planet

in the vast ancient space

of my palm, sip darkly

without naming the flavor,

and taste nothing with my

mind but This…

then give thanks

with a breath of silence in

no hurry to go.

Your faith is not your steadfast belief,

not certainty beyond questions.

Your faith is not what you think of God

or God’s anointed, for you yourself

have done some powerful anointing.

Your faith is giving your gifts,

without questioning how valued they are,

without questioning how worthy you are,

but simply offering what is in you.
What saves you is knowing you are received

without price, without judgment.

The Savior’s love is indeed powerful,

but how precious

is what you have done for the Beloved.
God’s giving and receiving

are married in you.
All that is broken is forgiven,

all that is wounded is healed,

all that is offered is cherished.
All that is broken is forgiven,

all that is wounded is healed,

all that is offered is cherished.

we do not need to stay broken
healing is our natural state of being
once we are whole again
we must be aware of the release of our pain
and open ourselves to move
to the next natural state of living
we leave the brokenness behind
and dance in the light again
stronger than before
spreading our wings to fly
higher than we ever dared before!

corporate memories

I have known the inexorable sadness of pencils,

Neat in their boxes, dolor of pad and paper weight,

All the misery of manilla folders and mucilage,

Desolation in immaculate public places,

Lonely reception room, lavatory, switchboard,

The unalterable pathos of basin and pitcher,

Ritual of multigraph, paper-clip, comma,

Endless duplicaton of lives and objects.

And I have seen dust from the walls of institutions,

Finer than flour, alive, more dangerous than silica,

Sift, almost invisible, through long afternoons of tedium,

Dropping a fine film on nails and delicate eyebrows,

Glazing the pale hair, the duplicate grey standard faces.

let the desire for beauty rule your life

Abandon every

program and routine.

There is no sequence

of postures.

Stand valiantly and

gently sway

in the breeze of your

own breath.

Let your body rise and fall,

circling slowly, a vast

starry firmament between

the ligaments of each bone,

muscles washed in

attention, moving

out of their ocean wheels,

galactic cells, Wordless

creations of the infinitesimal…

There are no instructions.

There is no book.

No, more slowly.

Go nowhere,

micro-movements

inventing themselves

from molten stillness.

Now it is your own dance.

Excuse me while I kiss the sky.

Pardon me while I hug the moon.

Forgive me while I dance with the ocean.

Give me a minute while I ring up a few stars.

Hold your horses while I sing with the angels.

Patience my old friend while I make love to the world.

Get some rest while I fly the skies with the eagles.

Count some sheep while I paint a masterpiece with Mother Nature.

Then…

Come lay beside me and hold me close,

touch my soul with lovers hands,

whisper the secrets my heart longs to hear,

sing to me softly,

kiss me like butterflies,

while I love you forever

and ever,

and we fall asleep together

each night,

for a thousand years

then a thousand more.

Sweet dreams,

my love.

and good night.
