Practice Letting Go

Fear makes us cling rather than letting go. But clinging
only binds us to our fear. It does not set us free. Practice letting go.

Fear inhibits our willingness to be fully, lovingly
present each moment. Afraid of the responsibility and uncertainty of investing
ourselves in the present moment, we withhold ourselves. Afraid of what might be
demanded of us, we do not engage in what is before us. Wishing things were
otherwise, we bury ourselves elsewhere. But life is this, not something else.
Practice being present.

All that you are and all that you have is God’s. You have
nothing to lose. Practice giving yourself away.

Charge of the Light Brigade

Alfred Lord Tennyson

Half a league half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred:
‘Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns’ he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

‘Forward, the Light Brigade!’
Was there a man dismay’d?
Not tho’ the soldier knew
Some one had blunder’d:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley’d & thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flash’d all their sabres bare,
Flash’d as they turn’d in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army while
All the world wonder’d:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro’ the line they broke;
Cossack & Russian
Reel’d from the sabre-stroke,
Shatter’d & sunder’d.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
While horse & hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro’ the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder’d.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

How Much Difference Can One Person Make?

An excerpt from
One Solitary Life
By James A. Francis
He was born in an obscure village the child of a peasant woman.

He grew up in still another village
where He worked in a carpenter shop
until He was thirty, and then for three years
He was an itinerant preacher.

He never wrote a book.
He never held an office.
He never had a family.
He never owned a house.
He never went to college.
He never visited a big city.

He never traveled
two hundred miles
from the place
where He was born.

He did none of the things
one usually associates with greatness.
He had no credentials but Himself.

He was only thirty-three when
the tide of public opinion turned against Him.
His friends ran away.
He was turned over to His enemies
and went through the mockery of a trial.

He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.

While He was dying
His executioners gambled for His clothing,
the only property He had on earth.

When He was dead
He was laid in a borrowed grave
through the pity of a friend.

Twenty centuries have come and gone,
and today Jesus is the central figure
of the human race,
the leader of mankind’s progress.

All the armies that have ever marched
All the navies that have ever sailed
All the parliaments that have ever sat
All the kings that have ever reigned
put together

Have not affected the life
of mankind on this earth
as much as that
one solitary life.

This is what you shall do

by Walt Whitman

“This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”

“This is what you shall do…” by Walt Whitman, from the preface of Leaves of Grass. Public domain.

from the very last section of the Course in Miracles – dictated to Helen

And now in all your doings be you blessed.

God turns to you for help to save the world.

Teacher of God, His thanks He offers you,

And all the world stands silent in the grace

You bring from Him. You are the Son He loves,

And it is given you to be the means

Through which His Voice is heard around the world,

To close all things of time; to end the sight

Of all things visible; and to undo

All things that change. Through you is ushered in

A world unseen, unheard, yet truly there.

Holy are you, and in your light the world

Reflects your holiness, for you are not

Alone and friendless. I give thanks for you,

And join your efforts on behalf of God,

Knowing they are on my behalf as well,

And for all those who walk to God with me.

AMEN

Markers

Markers of birth and death,
markers of marriage and divorce,
markers of graduation and success,
markers of failure and pain.

Within the fabric of human experience,
in the human life span . . .
There are measure marks.
Surprises on the journeys of life.
They are given on purpose… for our purpose.
The trouble is, we sometimes want to escape them.
Issues that we cant figure out.
Embracing them . . . easier said than done.

Aren’t we all searching for breakthrough,
healing, and restoration…?
From Covering, Hiding and Blaming . . .
A heart locked up, tight as a drum.
Suffering.

If we allow the process, and acknowledge our fear
Mercy and goodness chase us down.
The best comes and not the worst.
Over time . . . we gain the experience and we find the
treasure in the trial.
Scars are there to tell us where we don’t want to go.

Responding is the challenge, ACCEPTANCE…God loves us just the way we are.
He is the source, He is Big enough. Stay connected.
He makes us clear and pure on the inside.

We all hold keys that may open doors marked
“Do Not Enter”
They are ancient keys . . . keys of compassion,
keys of love,keys of trust
that bring life, hope and healing to suffering souls.
Because healed people heal people.

Markers…We are always in a process, looking for provision, daily forgiveness, fighting temptations, delivered from evil.
Recognizing Gods in charge.

Forever

A Philosopher’s Notes – Little By Little‏

The  Buddha tells us that one becomes good little by little—as a water pot is filled  with water, drop by drop by drop. (He also tells us that one becomes evil, little by little, drop by drop by little decision drop.)

Little by little. Drop by drop.
Little by little. Drop by drop.
After years of trying to fill my water pot ALL! AT! ONCE!, I’m finally
understanding that my attempts to change everything NOW were like trying to fill
a beautiful, delicate water pot with a fire hydrant. Rather than winding up with
a full pot, I pretty much sprayed the thing all around the room (and nearly
cracked it!).
Little by little. Drop by drop.
That’s the way to roll.
Moment by moment. Little decision by little mundane decision. Day in and day
out. THAT’s where it’s at.

Why Would You Do That?

You could have stopped for 1 minute and

You it would have made my day

–          It would have been a great surprise

Would have made me laugh, smile

and feel like you missed me too

You could have just went on your way

And not told me you were close

I would never have known

And so I would have been missing you –

The same as I do every day

But your choice was

To play tricks on me

And so

Instead you

Took me down…

made me cry…

Made me wonder why you would do that?

Why did you go out of your way to let me know

That you didn’t want to see me today?

Why did you set me up

and leave my heart to bleed?
