HAMLET: To be, or not to be–that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep–
No more–and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. ‘Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep–
To sleep–perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th’ oppressor’s wrong, the proud man’s contumely
The pangs of despised love, the law’s delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th’ unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprise of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action. — Soft you now,
The fair Ophelia! — Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remembered.

I think of difficult days
Days I struggle to stay alive
To keep my head above water
To put one foot in front of the other
To stay hydrated in the middle of my water works
I think of days of joy
When everything sparkles
When I say hello to the bright-eyed me in the mirror
When I am so glad I’m alive
So connected to the whole
I think about the moods of nature
The sunny days
The gray days
Days of angry storms
or gentle raindrops
Days of extreme
Just like me
Extreme weather
caused by my energy
the energy around me
environmental and
relational factors
personal forecast
Todays weather calls for
Sunny outlook
with occasional clouds
a few showers through out the day
wine at sunset
moon full tonight
with a dream or two of your kisses
still warm on my lips
floating through
Waking to a great day tomorrow
until I see you again

Over and over we break
open, we break and
we break and we open.
For a while, we try to fix
the vesselβas if
to be broken is bad.
As if with glue and tape
and a steady hand we
might bring things to perfect
again. As if they were ever
perfect. As if to be broken is not
also perfect. As if to be open
is not the path toward joy.
The vase thatβs been shattered
and cracked will never
hold water. Eventually
it will leak. And at some
point, perhaps, we decide
that weβre done with picking
our flowers anyway, and no
longer need a place to contain them
We watch them grow just
as wildflowers doβunfenced,
unmanaged, blossoming only
when theyβre readyβand mygod,
how beautiful they are amidst
the mounting pile of shards.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is, “It’s okay.” It’s okay for me to be kind to myself. It’s okay to be wrong. It’s okay to get mad. It’s okay to be flawed. It’s okay to be happy. It’s okay to move on.

Perhaps I want everything
the darkness that comes with every infinite fall
and the shivering blaze of every step up.
So many live on and want nothing
And are raised to the rank of prince
By the slippery ease of their light judgments
But what you love to see are faces
that do work and feel thirst.
You love most of all those who need you
as they need a crowbar or a hoe.
You have not grown old, and it is not too late
To dive into your increasing depths
where life calmly gives out its own secret.

The Book of Hours by Rainer Maria Rilke
On this day of your life I believe God wants you to know…
…that life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
You won’t find glory at the center of safety, but at its edge. You won’t find love at a place where you are covered, but in the space where you are naked.
You gotta take some risks. You have to not only pick up the dice, but roll ’em. So go ahead, take the gamble.
You have nothing to lose except the chance to win.
Life is not long enough to spend it on the sidelines. And you will not have to think but a second to know exactly why you received this message today.

I believe in all that has never yet been spoken.
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for
may for once spring clear
without my contriving.
If this is arrogant, God, forgive me,
but this is what I need to say.
May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children.
Then in these swelling and ebbing currents,
these deepening tides moving out, returning,
I will sing you as no one ever has,
streaming through widening channels
into the open sea.
I, 12 [I believe in all that has never been spoken] by Rainer Maria Rilke.

if you stand still enough,
or walk out far enough:
the light shimmering from every leaf,
the actual hardness of every stone?
This stone says something
of humility and presence,
of where it came from, and the belly of stars,
but it stays silent to draw you nearer.
We are, all of us, even the thin geranium
on the back stoop, reaching up
for light, for life, for beauty,
singing out with the great silent voice
of the immense glory of being,
the long, amazing story
and a love story it is.
Without your having to rememberβ
such a gift, such a giftβ
your lungs open to the world
and take in life, each moment.
Who gave you that?
How can you not sing, even in silence?
When we grow afraid we forget,
we wear protective layers
of things to believe, things to do,
so many things to do,
so that we don’t come too near
and catch fire.

Sometimes you just need someone to storm heaven for you
Sometimes you just need someone to hoarse whisper it for you β
βFather of the Tired & Broken-Heartedβ¦
oh, hear our prayerβ¦.
Give Your Child the wisdom to know it this week:
Hiding when youβre hurting wonβt heal you and growing isolated can just let infection grow.
Give Your Child the love to live it:
The secret way to heal a broken heart is to let love leak out like an ocean through all the cracks.
When youβre most wounded by words, run to the only Word that always brings healing.
And may all the trials be but a trail,
all the stones on the way be but grace stairs to God.
In the name of Jesus β
who broke His heart to heal oursβ¦β

Jairus begged him repeatedly, My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.β So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him…. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, βWho touched my clothes?β…. The woman came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. β¦ While he was still speaking, some people came from the leaderβs house to say, βYour daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?β…. He took her hand, and she got up….
βfrom Mark 5.2143
Jesus, interrupted, follows.
Interrupted again, he stops.
The clock ticking,
sirens still blaring, lights flashing,
he stops and listens.
His pause, it seems, is deadly.
But it isn’t, is it?
Who does not feel the devil
turning within you, chanting,
There is not enough time?
Who does not fear the story,
told from behind a dark curtain,
You don’t have the power?
Of course you don’t.
It’s not yours.
Time does not belong; it flows.
Power does not sit; it flows.
You don’t have to dip into
your little purse of time and energy:
you let infinite grace flow through you.
Healing happens without your effort;
you are only present.
It is not your time, not your energy, but God’s.
You enter the river, and it flows through you.
When you are present in this moment
you will be present in the next.
And thus it is, when you are present in this life
you are present in the next.
