Let a stalk of wheat
be your witness
to every difficult day.

Since it was a flame
before it was a plant,
since it was courage
before it was grain,
since it was determination
before it was growth,
and, above all, since it was prayer
before it was fruition,
it has nothing to point to
but the sky.

Remember the incredibly gentle wheat stalk
which holds its countless arrows fixed
to shoot from the bowstring—
you, standing in the same position
where the wind holds it.

visitation

The Hummingbird comes when it seems that what needs to be done is impossible. It teaches how to find joy in any circumstance.”

Last night I opened my door and received an amazing gift. A small grey hummingbird was drinking from my hanging flower basket. Completely surprised, my heart started beating fast. The little visitor stopped and came towards me, which startled me a little, and I moved a bit backward. He stopped and looked at me, like he knew my thrill and also my fear, and he flew away.

It was a truly wonderful gift and I posted it on facebook. My friend, Tina Michaels, commented and told me that a Hummingbird is a harbinger of joy.

Wow! I have been seeking God about my joy, asking for my joy to be full for the past few weeks!

I Googled it to find out more and found this quote from Steven Farmer’s book, Power Animals, to see what the appearance of this guide meant for me at this moment.

“Know that the only true prison you have is your belief in your limitations. Let them go, and experience the abundance of love and opportunity that’s all around. It only takes a willingness to see it, taste it, and feel it.”

“The Hummingbird is the only bird that can fly backwards. This is a reminder that the past can’t be changed but the past can teach lessons. it’s an emerald world

20140621-091225-33145274.jpg
.. and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
– Revelation 4:3

“Smaragdos” is Greek for “emerald.” It is thought to mean “live coal,” so says one Bible Dictionary anyway.

That’s parallel with the Hebrew definition as well, “glowing”.

In Scripture it seems to be the emblem of things “eternal,” things “everlasting,” things “not dead” and “never going to die!” Things very much “alive!”

God is encircled in Glory right now with an emerald-green hue! A bow, a rainbow, that lacks the seven colors of the spectrum, and only radiates green – like leaves in summer.

God on the Throne … eternal!

The Life He gives us … eternal!

Grace and Mercy … eternal!

Think about these things!

Ponder them!

Today emeralds have been assigned all kinds of meanings. Below is a list of some of the things an emerald can represent:

Emeralds traditionally represent true love and are said to change color when the loved one is being unfaithful

Emeralds were also thought to change color to alert the wearer of impending danger. Ever wonder if your emerald has tried to tell you something?

Besides love, emeralds are a symbol of loyalty, devotion, adoration and friendship

Emeralds were also regarded as supernatural and gave the wearer the ability to see into the future if the emerald was worn on the left side of the body or touched to the tongue.

Emeralds also serve as protective talismans and guard against enchantments and spells.

The Greeks also believed that apart from giving the owner eloquence, an emerald also made the wearer more intelligent and honest.

Because of their green color, emeralds are associated with rebirth and spring and are said to boost creativity.

They also open the door to new possibilities.

transformation

20140407-201322.jpg

I cast my suffering away and bind it onto you—
or so I think.
But pain is a thick cord, a sticky strand,
a thread spun deep within that does not break.
The web, once woven, only joins.
Every act of cruelty or blame, every thought
that someone deserves some pain,
every permission given for one to suffer
for another, secretes another thread,
a stronger cord, and weaves a thicker web.
I cast the lines, and they wholly bind me.
Anger winds me in its sheets.
I am matted together in one mass
with all whom I have rejected or hurt.
I am covered in my own life-sucking cocoon,
unable to move, to breathe, to imagine,
doomed never to change from life into life —
until, because we are wrapped together,
I see my victim, my neighbor as myself,
and in the burning anguish of my seeing
dissolve the binding ropes, and then
come out, so fragile and small,
and willing to be wounded,
finally free.

He makes all things beautiful in His time.

20140325-104416.jpg

One learns that the world, though made, is yet being made. That this is still the morning of creation. That mountains, long conceived, are now being born, brought to light by the glaciers, channels traced for rivers, basins hollowed for lakes. That moraine soil is being ground and outspread for coming plants…while the finest grist, seen hastening far out to sea, is being stored away in darkness, and builded, particle on particle, cementing and crystalizing, to make mountains and valleys, and plains of other landscapes, and pass on through the ages in endless rhythm and beauty. – John Muir

The mind that comes to rest is tended in ways that it cannot intend: is borne, preserved and comprehended by what it cannot comprehend. – Wendell Berry

Let us then labour for an inward stillness,
An inward stillness and an inward healing,
That perfect silence where the lips and heart are still,
And we no longer entertain our own imperfect
Thought and vain opinions,
But God above speaks in us,
And we wait in singleness of heart,
That we may know His will,
And in the silence of our spirit
That we may do His will,
And do that only…
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Sunday Paper

20140302-092208.jpg

I love paper
good quality paper creates
joy and satisfaction
few other things can achieve for me
That being said,
Newspaper makes my skin crawl
Like fingernails on a chalkboard
I hate the feel they have
Hate the ink that always smudges
Leaving traces on my fingers
Feelings and films of grime on my hands
When I was a kid
it was worth it for the ‘funnies’
Even as I would lay them on the floor
and try to touch as little as possible.
Something tells me the rapid decline
of the newspaper industry
has something to do with this feeling.
I would, however, like to experience a good
British Pub
Fish n chips
Wrapped in newspaper
Somehow I like the idea.
Feels romantic
in a messy kinda way –
like a walk in the rain or snow
or a roll in the hay or leaves
or standing beside the ocean as the tide comes in or a drive in a convertible on a summer afternoon.
All the really fun things in life
Leave us messy and a little greasy
smiling and breathless
eyes shining
with crazy hair –
Which we are proud of
In those moments.

tree-like wisdom

In a meadow stands a small tree
of whom nothing is asked,

snow at its feet, a bird song
weaving through its branches.

This day is not a test, a burden.
No need to accomplish or experience.

I am given to this day as a gift,
to be present, to bear my light,

to witness this glory,
to return thanks.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

In the land
of words,
I stand as still
as a tree
and let the words
rain down on me.
Come, rain, bring
your knowledge and your
music. Sing
while I grow green
and full.
I’ll stand as still
as a tree,
and let your blessings
fall on me.

The White
by
Patricia Hampl

These are the moments
before snow, whole weeks before.
The rehearsals of milky November,
cloud constructions
when a warm day
lowers a drift of light
through the leafless angles
of the trees lining the streets.
Green is gone,
gold is gone.
The blue sky is
the clairvoyance of snow.
There is night
and a moon
but these facts
force the hand of the season:
from that black sky
the real and cold white
will begin to emerge.
