we got it all

As fearful people we are inclined to develop a mind-set that makes us say: “There’s not enough food for everyone, so I better be sure I save enough for myself in case of emergency,” or “There’s not enough knowledge for everyone to enjoy; so I’d better keep my knowledge to myself, so no one else will use it” or “There’s not enough love to give to everybody, so I’d better keep my friends for myself to prevent others from taking them away from me.” This is a scarcity mentality. Why Epiphanies Don’t Work | by Jacob Sokol
With no shortage of wisdom, biz-strategies, and life-advice, why aren’t we all already living the lives of our dreams?
Does the problem lie in our inability to find the right balance between *knowledge* acquisition and actual *implementation*?
Epiphanies can be life-altering, but in reality, most are short-lived and fade away within days or weeks.
So, how can we effectively translate epiphanies into lasting change?
In one of my all-time favorite interviews, that’s the exact question I asked moral psychologist Jonathan Haidt for our upcoming WTF Should I Do w/ My Life?! virtual conference.

What Jonathan shared was shocking…
Epiphanies are thrilling but they’re cheap. They fade away. And then months later, nothing ever happens.
Here’s a HUGE insight: Unless you change your *environment* or your *relationships*, change will not last.
This is why community is SO important. In order to utilize the information you’re learning, you need to make changes in your life that will allow you to sustain whatever insights you have. If you want to change yourself, change your peer group.
So, how can you stop hanging out with the knuckleheads and start hanging out with people you admire?

Divinity School

I sit and open my mind
to the learning of the ocean
the gulls in flight
have been my most excellent teachers.
I have been learning from their instruction
for the past two months.
Their movement in the air and water
have taught me more about trust in these moments
than sitting for years
in a classroom somewhere.
This is my Divinity School.
The movement of the elements
wind, snow, sand, rain and sun.
The conversations with
rocks, trees, shells, spring flowers.
The water teaches me
intimacy with my creator,
and the true breadth
width and height of God.
Who is all
through all
above all
under all
beside all
inside all
around all
We humans walk on and through
God himself
so mostly unaware
the earth is made of His word
the air and sea are His breath
we are made of all three
clay, water, air
Trinity
I cannot help but be
astounded,
overwhelmed,
overjoyed
by this majestic love.
I experience it in every step I take.
Of course I must sing
(a melody like this
will not be contained)
in harmony with the glamorous gold sparkly rocks
filling my pockets.
How could I possibly keep quiet?

Being Humble and Confident

As we look at the stars and let our minds wander into the many galaxies, we come to feel so small and insignificant that anything we do, say, or think seems completely useless. But if we look into our souls and let our minds wander into the endless galaxies of our interior lives, we become so tall and significant that everything we do, say, or think appears of great importance.

We have to keep looking both ways to remain humble and confident, humorous and serious, playful and responsible. Yes, the human person is very small and very tall. It is the tension between the two that keeps us spiritually awake.

most important 11 truths I have learned …so far

1. God is love. All we need is love. Real, unconditional love leads us to our highest selves.

2. The value of the human soul. Every individual human soul is worth more than all the money in this world. Never forget it.

3. We are all beloved. Unique. Loved unconditionally. Here for this very time and place for a specific and special purpose.

4. The power of choice. We CAN do hard things. We can change our lives! We can overcome anything. We hold the power! Attitude is everything! Words are power!

5. Long term thinking is the key to changing our lives and the world. Don’t trade what you want most for what you want now.

6. Timing truly is everything. Patience is one of the most difficult virtues to learn. We can learn it! Practice makes perfect.

7. Life is a gift. Give thanks in everything. Everything! Yes, everything! Look for the miracles. They are everywhere!

8. Listen to the silence. God speaks through silence. If you want to meet God you have to learn about silence and being alone.

9. Find your truth. Speak your truth. It’s inside each of us. The truth sets us free and we will be free indeed.

10. Relationships are all important for creativity and truly becoming our highest selves. Surround yourself with like-minded positive people for success, as well as for discovering and sharing our creativity.

11. Never give/lend anything you want back. Give all you can without expecting anything in return. Give as much as you can anonymously. Share – there is always enough to be shared.
