tree-like wisdom

In a meadow stands a small tree
of whom nothing is asked,

snow at its feet, a bird song
weaving through its branches.

This day is not a test, a burden.
No need to accomplish or experience.

I am given to this day as a gift,
to be present, to bear my light,

to witness this glory,
to return thanks.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

In the land
of words,
I stand as still
as a tree
and let the words
rain down on me.
Come, rain, bring
your knowledge and your
music. Sing
while I grow green
and full.
I’ll stand as still
as a tree,
and let your blessings
fall on me.

all the hidden things

20140220-074145.jpg

All the things hidden in my heart,
I, like Mary,
watching and observing Jesus.
Being the witness of the unseen miracles.
The keeper of all I have seen.
My faith is real,
because I have experienced great acts of God,
faithfulness
on the inside, and outside, of my life,
In the daily progression of my journey.
You can’t take any of it away from me.
I know what I have seen.
I know my personal transformation of heart.
This is not my daddy’s faith
This is not my momma’s relationship.
This is all mine.
Intimacy
Walking together.
Miracles.
Clouds and colors,
falling stars and pillars of fire,
pointing the way.
Falling in love.
Commitment.
Yes, the words of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount
changed my life.
When I began to try to live them daily.
When I stepped into the great unknown.
Became an observer of my own soul.
Became open to the door of the unknown.
Became comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Became strong in the divine otherness within me.
Fell in passionate love with grace.
Fell in love with this great, incomprehensible love.
Walked through the unlocked door into freedom.
All the hidden things will be revealed
All the hidden things will be proclaimed
All the hidden things will be shouted from the rooftops.
All the hidden things will be joyfully sung at the top of my lungs.
All the hidden things will remain hidden no more.
Glory rises as the sun rises.
Glory rises as the sun sets.

It is for freedom that Christ sets us free. Galatians 5:1

Happy Freedom Day!
Gratitude is a vaccine, an antitoxin, and an antiseptic.

It’s my sixth Annual Freedom Day
I have reached home
I have stood up against many demons and bullies
I have not settled or compromised
I have won battles against comfort and discomfort
I have done my work – I am whole and healed from the inside out.
I have slain scarcity – I live where wealth and abundance flow.
I stand tall and am walking brave
I go where the boat takes me
God’s hand holds me
My Jesus guides
The spirit glows warm within –
breath by breath
I drive towards the church
excited
and realize how hungry I am
I feel led to trust again
Give all I have this morning
a gift of great gratitude.
To see the salvation of God
is my joy.
I look in my wallet
as I pull into Dunkin’ Donuts drive thru
Do I give this to church?
Then a flash back to 6 years ago
A Dunkin’ Donuts in Woburn, MA
A 100$ bill given in a tip jar of thanks
for my safe deliverance.
and I know this is my place this chilly, wonderful winterful morning.
I order
Then explain to the young girl taking my last 100$
This is my Freedom Day!
Don’t ever settle for less than you are worth!!
The manager and others hurry over to hear more,
to cheer me and say thank you.
I drive away so very happy –
hoping whoever needed that message got it!
Yes, it is Freedom Day!
It is for freedom we have been set free –
Pass it on!!!

only You

20140131-192627.jpg

Blessed are the poor in spirit
for thiers is the realm of heaven.
—Matthew 5.3

When you have nothing
then God fills your life.

When you are powerless
there is nothing but the infinite power of God.

When you are stripped naked
you are clothed in the glory God gave you.

It is in darkness and chaos
that God creates.

When you are on the cross,
you are where God saves;
when you are in the grave,
you are where God raises us up.

When you are weak and discouraged,
alone and hurting,
in that lowest place,
you are in the very place where Christ comes:
you are accompanied;
you are blessed.

What we most fear is all we desire:
to lose everything,
falling in love until all we have is love
and the Beloved.

Empty your life
and all will be God.

“Nothing ever goes away until it teaches us what we need to know.” – Pema Chodron

20140125-101759.jpg

The sky in my rearview
is a huge bowl of rainbow sherbet
the beautiful kind of flavor-ite.
I love eating
that certain shade of raspberry, orange n lime
swatches of lemon, indigo and periwinkle
float in and out
around.
Flaming.
Framing.
Dancing.
Living.
At one point a bold, red-gold-tangerine fills the top of the hilly crest
and head light ‘stars’ of Friday night traffic
blaze brilliant against the backdrop,
indigo stretches wide above,
high, cut-thru mountains frame the sides as I drive,
framing this unending sky-filling masterpiece
– I lose my breath in wonder.
At times I find it hard to keep moving forward
into the matt gray and dirty white
of drudgery ahead.
with so much loveliness going on
right behind me.
How can it be so different at the same time?
How can this reflection be so clear?
how can I keep heading away from it?
How can I not be a part of this splendor?
How can I not be enveloped,
devoured,
consumed by this color?
Eventually midnight blue seizes its moment of glory,
then night falls over all the world I can see on any side,
and I am left
aching with the beauty,
the majesty,
the extravagant display,
the glorious wonder,
of this wonderful world.
The ache gets deeper,
wider.
I go to wondering
if this longing for the kiss,
which should have been,
will ever be answered?
if my whole life
I will wait
for a moment which passed,
never to be realized under this piece of ever-changing sky –
always a whisper in my soul.
This magic of first love,
a thing with wings
hovering over my heart
for another 38 years –
echoing on into eternity.

look at the stars. how they shine for you.

20140118-010115.jpg

Strange to realize
on our very worst day of life
someone else is having their very best.
Every death
is countered with birth.
Every grieving tear
with belly laughter.
Our weakest moments
are also our strongest.
Our greatest challenge of faith or doubt
is when true faith is finally began.
The deepest mysteries come clear
as we accept what we don’t know.
On the night we see the stars fall
the sun is rising on the other side of the world.
The human spirit cannot be conquered
we rise from ashes again with each burning.
Tides come in
as tides go out.
With every broken heart
there is an answering new moment of love.
For every first kiss
a final slamming of the door –
figuratively or literally.
For every threshold we cross
we must cross again in a new moment.
We each have moments of glory
moments of defeat.
Worry is the paper tiger
which strips our moments of joy.
Illusions of control hide behind our eyes
always revealed to be a waste of our precious resources.
There is a time for every season.
In all we are to bring the sacrifice of praise.
It is the amazing hat-trick to the healing of our wounds
that in every single circumstance
we stand in the truth of that moment
and we give thanks.

remember…

You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? And most important, what do they have me becoming? Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay? Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.

do you see the prayers made of everything that some people call ordinary?

Mindful
by Mary Oliver

Everyday
I see or hear
something
that more or less

kills me
with delight,
that leaves me
like a needle

in the haystack
of light.
It was what I was born for —
to look, to listen,

to lose myself
inside this soft world —
to instruct myself
over and over

in joy,
and acclamation.
Nor am I talking
about the exceptional,

the fearful, the dreadful,
the very extravagant —
but of the ordinary,
the common, the very drab,

the daily presentations.
Oh, good scholar,
I say to myself,
how can you help

but grow wise
with such teachings
as these —
the untrimmable light

of the world,
the ocean’s shine,
the prayers that are made
out of grass?

it takes great courage to believe in goodness…be courageous

And I peel squash and there is God and yada, yada, yada.

And yadah, it’s Hebrew, and it literally means to hold out the hand in four ways:

1. to bemoan with this wringing of hands.

2. or to revere with an extending of hands.661854f0c813af23756f1f9bc8d60dd3

And this too on the page of the Strong’s Concordance:

3. Yadah means to confess.

4. Yadah means to give thanks.

Yadah –   the whisper of Psalms 92:1: It is a good thing to [yada] — give thanks – and sing praises to unto thy name, O most High.

And in the midst of genocides and suicides, the divorce and disease, the death and dark, we understand the yada all around us,  the holding up of fists at God instead of extending the hand in thanks and we empathize with the unbeliever’s confusion, because it’s our own confusion, and in this struggle to be grateful to God for always and for everything, we pray with humble earnestness for the unbeliever: because before a Good God haven’t we all been been momentary unbelievers?

Vol-195-231x300And yet there it is, and you hear it now, at the cusp of the feasting, the yada, yada, yada, that sings relentless and bold:

We won’t stop confessing He is good and we won’t stop thanking Him for grace and we won’t stop holding out our hands — and taking His hand. We won’t stop believing that “God is good” is not some trite quip for the good days but a radical defiant cry for the terrible days.

That “God is good” is not a stale one-liner when all’s  happy but a saving lifeline when all’s hard.

And we will keep giving thanks, yada, yada, yada, because giving thanks is only this: making the canyon of pain into a megaphone to proclaim the ultimate goodness of God.

And every time I give thanks, I confess to the universe the goodness of God.

Thanksgiving in all things accepts the deep mystery of God through everything.

if you stop to be kind, you must swerve often from your path. – mary webb

Pilgrim,
learn to love your failures,
your fruitless days,
your weak and barren prayers.
Every step in the wilderness,
even when you’re lost,
is a step on the journey
toward the Promised Land.

b3d06045735b29710bf7b29ec03f3f65Every step, even the two forward
and one back
and one to the side,
going nowhere,
is blessed:
a step in the dance
your Lover has
with you.
