The Quiet Power

I walked backwards, against time
and that’s where I caught the moon,
singing at me.

I stepped downwards, into my seat
and that’s where I caught freedom,
waiting for me, like a lilac.

I ended thought, and I ended story.
I stopped designing, and arguing, and
sculpting a happy life.7

I didn’t die. I didn’t turn to dust.

Instead I chopped vegetables,
and made a calm lake in me
where the water was clear and sourced and still.

And when the ones I loved came to it,
I had something to give them, and
it offered them a soft road out of pain.

I became beloved.

And I came to know that this was it.
The quiet power.
I could give something mighty, lasting,
that stopped the wheel of chaos,

by tending to the river inside,
keeping the water rich and deep,
keeping a bench for you to visit.

what can you build?

No stream rises higher than its source. What ever man might build could never express or reflect more than he was. He could record neither more nor less than he had learned of life when the buildings were built.

Keep asking yourself…

You must constantly ask yourself these questions:
Who am I around?
What are they doing to me?
What have they got me reading?
What have they got me saying?
Where do they have me going?
What do they have me thinking?
And most important, what do they have me becoming?

Then ask yourself the big question:
Is that okay?”

most important 11 truths I have learned …so far

1. God is love. All we need is love. Real, unconditional love leads us to our highest selves.

2. The value of the human soul. Every individual human soul is worth more than all the money in this world. Never forget it.

3. We are all beloved. Unique. Loved unconditionally. Here for this very time and place for a specific and special purpose.

4. The power of choice. We CAN do hard things. We can change our lives! We can overcome anything. We hold the power! Attitude is everything! Words are power!

5. Long term thinking is the key to changing our lives and the world. Don’t trade what you want most for what you want now.

6. Timing truly is everything. Patience is one of the most difficult virtues to learn. We can learn it! Practice makes perfect.

7. Life is a gift. Give thanks in everything. Everything! Yes, everything! Look for the miracles. They are everywhere!

8. Listen to the silence. God speaks through silence. If you want to meet God you have to learn about silence and being alone.

9. Find your truth. Speak your truth. It’s inside each of us. The truth sets us free and we will be free indeed.

10. Relationships are all important for creativity and truly becoming our highest selves. Surround yourself with like-minded positive people for success, as well as for discovering and sharing our creativity.

11. Never give/lend anything you want back. Give all you can without expecting anything in return. Give as much as you can anonymously. Share – there is always enough to be shared.

trusting yourself

1Developing self-esteem requires an act of revolution, or several mini-revolutions, in which we begin to separate from group thought and establish our own sense of authority. We may suddenly; realize we hold an opinion different from our family or our peers, but in either case we will have difficulty freeing ourselves from the group’s energy, whose strength depends upon numbers and opposition to most expressions of individuality The act of finding our own voice, even in mini-revolutions, is spiritually significant. Spiritual maturity is measured not by the sophistication of a person’s opinions, but by their genuineness and the courage necessary to express and maintain them. By courage, I do not mean the intractable stubbornness of two people locking horns, Spiritual maturity in contrast, is the capacity to stand one’s ground as a reflection of a genuine inner belief.

Therefore, those who know themselves can be themselves. – Boyd Bailey

1BE YOURSELF
“Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off.” 1 Samuel 17:38-39

Those who are comfortable in their own skin are content in how the Lord has made them. However, those who strive to be someone they’re not end up frustrated, failing to enjoy authentic living. Saul desired to honor David by giving him his armor that worked well in past battles, but what Saul found effective was not the best plan for David. Yes, wise followers of Christ focus on what aligns with the unique. Therefore, those who know themselves can be themselves.

Are you at peace in how the Lord has prepared you for the challenges you face? Do your words and mannerisms represent the true you, or are you a masquerade of another man or woman? It is ok to learn from others with a track record of integrity, but ask the Spirit to filter their ideas and actions through the grid of how God has made you. The Lord has placed you in this time and place, so be proud of who you are and where you’re from. Be who God made you.

“From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.” Acts 17:26-27

Be yourself at home and your family will feel free to be themselves. Parents and children who laugh and cry together grow closer together. Be yourself at work and pretense will feel uncomfortable in your workplace. Office politics are precluded where people are at peace in their roles and responsibilities. It is in an environment of authenticity that we feel free to be how God has made us. So you can be content in a career that is the best fit for you.

Most of all be yourself in the company of Christ. He will not love you any more than He already does, regardless of what you accomplish or don’t accomplish. You don’t have to prove yourself to God who has already thoroughly accepted you in His son Jesus. Be yourself with your Creator and He will give you insight to be creative for His causes. Clothe yourself in the unique apparel of grace that Almighty God has just for you. He is conforming you into the image of His Son.

“For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” Romans 8:29

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the faith and courage to be who You want me to be.
